Developing Readers
A developing reader is typically between the ages of 4 to 6. In this stage, children work towards mastering the alphabet and begin to read and spell words. Alphabet mastery is essential in reading development as it ensures children know each letter’s shape, name, sound, and form. Though not able to read books fluently, developing readers begin understanding how sounds and letters work together, which is how independent reading begins.
